Origins of the Cold War
The cold war started because the two biggest superpowers of the world had very different ideas on how to set up their societies. These differences almost lead to a nuclear war. Yikes. The core of the problem was all politics. The US had a democratic government that opposed the Soviet Union’s communist government. The economic structures of the two were also very different. The US had a capitalist economy and the Soviets had a socialist economic set up. The US was more lax when it came to the control and power over its citizens. Yes the American Government had laws in place but nothing like the Soviets. The Soviets were totalitarians with complete control over everything going on in the country. The unstable relationship between the two countries following the second world war didn’t help the situation much either.
